Job Summary
In CCM’s Collections Division, the Paralegal / Legal Assistant supports the ethical enforcement of unpaid legal fees by preparing court documents, drafting correspondence, tracking case progress, and maintaining documentation for recovery matters. As a key team member in this attorney-owned firm founded in 2025, you’ll contribute to a seamless, compliant process that helps law firms recover earnings without reputational risk, drawing on CCM’s hybrid model of legal expertise and efficient collections.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file legal documents, including complaints, summonses, motions, and proofs of service for small claims and superior court actions.
- Draft routine correspondence to debtors, such as validation notices and payment reminders, ensuring compliance with FDCPA scripting requirements.
- Organize and index case files, including fee agreements, invoices, and communication logs, for easy retrieval during audits or litigation.
- Schedule court appearances, depositions, and settlement conferences, coordinating with attorneys and external parties.
- Track case milestones (e.g., response deadlines, payment due dates) using CCM’s case management system and generate progress reports.
- Assist in discovery processes by compiling debtor financial records and responding to interrogatories.
- Support settlement negotiations by preparing term sheets, calculating payoff amounts, and documenting agreements.
- Maintain a confidential filing system compliant with data privacy laws, including secure shredding of sensitive materials.
- Liaise with process servers, court clerks, and referring attorneys to resolve procedural issues promptly.
- Contribute to team meetings by summarizing case updates and flagging potential compliance concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field; certification from an ABA-approved program preferred.
- 2+ years of paralegal experience in litigation, collections, or creditor’s rights.
- Familiarity with California court procedures, e-filing systems (e.g., Odyssey), and basic legal research.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and document management software.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Discreet handling of confidential information with impeccable ethics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in debt collection or law firm settings focused on professional fees.
- Knowledge of Rosenthal Act and FDCPA requirements for paralegal tasks.
- Notary Public certification for document authentication.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
